Basic Emergency Medical Service was first provided to the community in 1946, with the Advanced Life Support being added in 1999. The purpose of this service is to supply Emergency Medical Services to the residents and visitors of the community.

There are currently Two ambulances set up for Advanced Life Support. All of the Fire Engines are set up for Basic Life Support with an external Cardiac Defibulator. The trailor for the Tech Rescue Service is also set up for Advanced Life Support. 22 of the Amesbury Fire Department's Staff are Basic EMTs and 6 are Paramedics. The Staff currently runs around 2000 calls a year, 50% of which require BLS, 50% ALS.

The services that frequently assist the EMS Service are the Boston Med Flight Service, and other local advanced life support companies Amesbury also assists the local Advanced Life Support Companies.
